25.44 acres of property known as Bailey Grove along Bayou Parc Perdu / Detente Road was acquired today by the City of Youngsville for the purpose of drainage detention. Originally introduced to me as a recommendation in the city’s Master Plan this one has been a long time in the making! 100% funded by hazardous grant mitigation dollars aka no local taxpayer funding.
Construction plans are in progress and will be complete this summer before FEMA construction approval. Once constructed this series of 4 detention ponds in Bailey Grove, coupled with the previously announced 18.19 acres upstream, and another major parcel to be announced, will lower the BFE on Bayou Parc Perdu by 7 inches. Why does this matter? In 2016 the homes that flooded in this drainage area had less than that in their homes. Didn’t flood? Have you ever noticed the flooded YSC soccer parking lot or Detente Road after a heavy rainfall? That’s Bayou Parc Perdu.
Thank you to the seller Young’s Industries for your partnership and friendship to Youngsville, our Council Members for supporting the plan, and the best engineering and administrative team for getting it done before the end of the week/month!
