1.935 Acres Acquired for Drainage Improvement Along Bayou Parc Perdu
October 29, 2021 – Today the City of Youngsville acquired additional acreage along Iberia Street and Bayou Parc Perdu (aprx. 60% of Youngsville drains to this channel) to improve drainage thanks to the Schexnayder family. This property, along with several others recently acquired up and down stream, will lower the base flood elevation in the area when converted to stormwater ponds.
City officials remain steadfast in our responsibility to reduce the risk of flooding. Over the past 15 months more than 100 acres have been amicably acquired to reduce flood risk throughout the City of Youngsville.

Why all the emphasis on detention/retention projects? Youngsville was a leader in requiring residential and commercial developments to withstand larger storm events as part of Youngsville’s 2015 Master Plan. However the city’s numerous pond projects will provide additional storage for previously approved developments and larger storm events in excess of their original design. These projects lower the risk of structure flooding and in some cases provide safer passage on roads / areas that have historically held storm water.
